First Practice

A specialist service for Australian NDIS providers.

Built by an Australian engineer who's spent his career building production software. The engineering standards that power serious enterprise platforms are the same ones we apply to every site we ship.

Liam Johnston, founder.

Enterprise-grade engineering, applied to a sole-trader's budget.

I'm a Melbourne-based software engineer (CS background, Bachelor of Engineering) who's spent the last several years building production AI systems and the cloud infrastructure they run on - the kind of work where downtime gets measured in dollars per second and accessibility is a hard requirement, not a checkbox.

I started First Practice after realising the same engineering that powers serious enterprise platforms could deliver a genuinely good website to a sole-trader NDIS support worker for the price of a couple of takeaway dinners a month. Most agencies still hand you a sluggish WordPress template, charge five figures upfront, then bill again every time you need to add a service page or update your contact details. Three weeks to go live, days of back-and-forth for the smallest change. We ship in 48 hours on infrastructure built for speed, and the monthly fee covers unlimited content changes for as long as you're with us.

What I bring.

  • Production-grade engineering. The same standards that keep enterprise systems online apply to your site - performance, accessibility, security, uptime.
  • Builder-level accountability. You won't be handed off to a junior or routed to a ticket queue. The person who built the site is the person you talk to.
  • Australian-built and operated. Your data stays here. Your support is in your timezone. Your vendor is a named, locatable person, not an offshore agency.
  • A genuine interest in the NDIS sector. I'm doing the customer research, joining the communities, and treating this as a serious build, not a side hustle to flip.

Why First Practice exists.

Most Australian NDIS sole-traders end up with one of three options when they need a website: a freelancer who's slow and expensive, an agency who's slower and even more expensive, or a DIY platform like Wix that requires them to become a web designer in their spare time.

None of those options give them what they actually need - a complete, professional, accessible website that covers their services and suburbs, that complies with NDIS Commission rules, and that's there when a participant family googles them or a Support Coordinator looks them up.

First Practice exists to be that fourth option. A subscription service that delivers in 48 hours what most agencies take three weeks to deliver. No setup fee. No lock-in. Built so that being a new sole-trader doesn't mean settling for a generic, mediocre online presence.

What we believe.

  1. 01

    Compliance isn't a launch-day checkbox.

Rules change. We keep your site current with them, so staying compliant isn't your second job. The 2026 NDIS Commission anti-promotion powers carry civil penalties in the tens of thousands of dollars per breach, and a site that was compliant on launch day isn't necessarily compliant a year later. We build our compliance ruleset into every page we produce, and we keep it current for you at no extra cost.

  2. 02

    Accessibility isn't marketing.

Testing every site against WCAG 2.2 AA means the people you're serving can actually use your site. We run both automated and manual accessibility checks on every site before publish. It's the right thing to do, and it's also the difference between a Support Coordinator trusting your professionalism or not.

  3. 03

    Bespoke, not templated.

We don't reuse a template for every customer. Each site is built from scratch for that practice's services, suburbs, brand, and the way they talk about their work. The engineering bar is the same standard we apply to serious production platforms.

  4. 04

    Your domain stays yours.

If you cancel, the domain comes with you. We're not in the business of holding your online presence hostage.

  5. 05

No lock-in. The build is yours after 12 months.

Most subscription web services lock you in by owning the code. We do the opposite. No fixed contract, cancel anytime, your domain and content always come with you. Stay 12 months and the entire site - design, code, content - is yours outright. Want it sooner? Buy the build out before then; give us a call for pricing. Either way, you own it.

  6. 06

    Transparent pricing.

Three tiers, posted publicly. No "starting from" weasel words. No hidden setup fees. You see the price; you pay the price.

  7. 07

    Providers get the credit.

Sites we build don't carry our brand. No "Built by First Practice" footer. No badges. You're the practice; the site is yours.

Every NDIS provider's website needs to win two audiences.

Most provider websites are built for one audience: participants and families. Plain language, friendly photos, contact form at the bottom. That's necessary - but it's not enough.

The Support Coordinators who are a major referral channel for NDIS providers don't read a provider's site looking for warm fuzzies. They read it to answer one question: can I confidently refer one of my participants here? They need to see clinical detail, service depth, specialisation signals, location coverage, and credibility cues that aren't on most provider websites.

So we build two layers into every site we deliver. The participant-facing layer with plain-language pages, accessibility, contact paths. And the referrer-facing layer with the kind of detail Support Coordinators are actually looking for. Most competitors skip this. We don't. It's why the sites we build win referrals other sole-traders miss.
